Law firm DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary is continuing its African expansion with a recent group firm agreement in Zambia.

Grant Henderson, DLA Piper’s man in Zambia, has been seconded to the firm Chibesakunda & Co in Lusaka, led by partner Mwelwa Chibesakunda. Henderson says that a bulk of the work undertaken will be trade finance related.

Henderson and fellow African specialist partner Charles Morrison have had long-standing business relations with Chibesakunda – in all aspects of banking and finance. “The firm was a natural choice for us,” says Henderson.

DLA already had partnerships with South Africa’s Cliffe Dekker, Egypt’s Matouk & Bassiouny and Portugal’s Correia Amendoeira, which has a presence in Mozambique and Angola. The aim is to build up further presence in Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Botswana, Uganda and Mauritius, says Henderson. “We are also looking seriously at the Francophone countries,” he adds. “These would be handled through our Brussels office.”

DLA Piper also has four offices in Eastern Europe and offices in Dubai, Asia and the US.
