Global insurance firm AIG has created a position of chief sustainability officer to develop and implement a company-wide sustainability strategy.

Jennifer Waldner will fill the new role. She has worked in a range of senior positions at AIG over the past 11 years, most recently as head of citizenship at AIG Life and Retirement. Prior to joining AIG, she spent a decade in citizenship roles at State Street Corporation.

As chief sustainability officer, Waldner will lead a cross-functional team charged with executing AIG’s sustainability strategy across the organisation and developing a corresponding reporting structure.

“The creation of a chief sustainability officer position reflects AIG’s ongoing commitment to sustainability as an insurer, investor, employer and corporate citizen, along with our efforts to take a thoughtful, co-ordinated approach across our global footprint,” says Thomas Leonardi, AIG’s executive vice-president at AIG Life Holdings.
