Royal Bank of Scotland is bringing in Deutsche Bank’s chief country officer for Thailand Manfred Schmoelz to head up the bank’s global network banking business in Asia Pacific.

Schmoelz is tasked with growing the global network banking franchise in Asia Pacific by targeting multinationals and their regional subsidiaries.

He will move into the role on September 7, 2011.

Schmoelz built up a strong career at Deutsche, and before his position as Thailand chief country officer he was the bank’s head of corporate banking coverage, Asia Pacific, in a corporate banking career that has lasted for more than 20 years.

“Manfred’s appointment demonstrates again the high calibre of candidates that RBS attracts,” says Matthew Kirkby, head of global banking, Asia Pacific and global head of corporate finance.

Kirkby, alongside RBS’s head of global network banking Paul McDonagh and head of global transaction services, Asia Pacific, Alan Goodyear, will be Schmoelz’s new boss.

Goodyear says: “Manfred is a seasoned banker with a solid grounding in commercial banking. He will bring a strong track record of building relationships across multinational companies, local corporates and small and medium-sized enterprise segments to the benefit of the business.”
