Markel has appointed Arjan van de Wall as director of development, Americas, in its trade credit and political risk operation in the US.

Based in New York and reporting to Philip Amlot as head of the trade credit and political risk team, van de Wall will be responsible for business growth across the US, Canada and Latin America.

He joins from Euler Hermes, where he spent the past 11 years, most recently as commercial director, Americas. He has over 26 years of experience in the trade credit industry, including 10 years at Atradius.

Amlot says: “Arjan has a wealth of experience in the trade credit industry and over 20 years working in the US marketplace, which will be a huge asset to our organisation and to the continued development of our business across North and South America.”

Ewa Rose, managing director of Markel’s trade credit and political risk business, adds: “Arjan will be actively involved in further developing our broker and client relationships. He will help to shape our offering across the Americas and we are delighted to have someone with his outstanding reputation in the trade credit market join the team.”

Van de Wall’s appointment follows that of Howard Lee as senior underwriter in Markel’s trade credit and political risk business in the US in May this year.
