Industry veteran Charles Carlson has been promoted to CEO of Standard Chartered’s Qatar operations.

Carlson was previously set to take up the position of CEO of Libyan operations but was unable to fulfil the role due to Standard Chartered failing to obtain a licence to operate in Libya.

Before that, he was global head of structured export finance.

Carlson’s move follows David Godwin who, as of September 1, 2011 will take up a new role as regional head of group special asset management for the Middle East, Pakistan and Africa, and will be based in Dubai.

Christos Papadopoulos, the bank’s regional CEO for MENA says: “His (Carlson’s) appointment comes at an exciting time when we are stepping up our focus on the Middle East and North Africa region and we are confident that Charles will play a major role in leading our growth in Qatar.”
