Insurance broker Marsh has announced the appointment of Maurits Quarles van Ufford as senior client executive in its global commodity trading platform (GCTP).

Based in Geneva, Quarles van Ufford started on October 1, and is responsible for the regional development of Marsh’s GCTP. He works with Marsh’s commodity trading clients to identify their operational, financial, political, and reputational exposures, and develop risk mitigation programmes that include insurance solutions for transferable risks and alternative risk transfer options.

He reports to Julian Macey-Dare, global sales leader of Marsh’s political risk and structured credit practice, and Dirk Segers, marine practice leader and leader of Marsh’s GCTP.

Quarles van Ufford joins Marsh from Aon, where he managed multinational insurance programmes for international commodity trading firms, in Switzerland and Europe.

Macey-Dare says: “Commodity traders are vital to the financing and distribution of resources such as energy, food, metals, and potable water globally. However, they now face significant challenges as a result of the increasingly volatile financial, political, and economic risk landscape. Maurits is well placed to guide Marsh’s clients and provide the solutions they need to sustain and build on their success.”
