Lloyd’s insurance firm Liberty Syndicates has appointed two new members to its global financial risk team.

Huw Owen joins Liberty from Zurich to take on the role of class underwriter, while Tom Ashworth joins from Aspen, to become the team’s global financial risk analyst.

Both report to Peter Sprent, head of global financial risk at the firm.

Owen has over 10 years of experience in the insurance market, working on the underwriting and broking sides.

Ashworth spent over 11 years in the banking sector working for Morgan Stanley and ABN Amro, before moving to Aspen to become a credit risk analyst. His primary responsibilities for Liberty will be the assessment of credit and performance risk of public and private sector counterparties as well as country risk analysis and portfolio management, the firm says.

Sprent comments: “What we are seeking to do is build on Liberty Syndicate’s existing strength by creating a market-leading team that combines the traditional Lloyd’s virtues of innovation and flexibility with enhanced underwriting experience, analytical skills and portfolio management.”
