HSBC has announced the appointment of Mahbub Rahman as the new head of commercial banking, Malaysia.

Rahman, who officially started his new tenure on August 1, 2014, joins from the bank’s Bangladesh team, where he has headed up the commercial banking business since 2006.

He is now responsible for driving commercial and corporate banking, as well as the global trade and receivables finance (GTRF) business.

Rahman is also leading the payments and cash management (PCM) business in Malaysia, a country identified by the bank as “one of Asia’s most dynamic emerging markets”.

Rahman will now report to Noel Quinn, group general manager and regional head of commercial banking, Asia Pacific, who says: “Commercial banking is where HSBC began, and it remains at the heart of our identity as the world’s leading trade and business bank. Malaysia is one of Asia’s most dynamic economies and Mahbub’s experience will complement our leadership position in Asia.”

Rahman will also report to Mukhtar Hussain, regional head of commercial banking, Asia Pacific, CEO of HSBC Malaysia

Bhuvnesh Khanna was appointed as Rahman’s replacement as head of commercial banking in Bangladesh.
