As part of its ongoing global expansion, Fortis Bank Nederland has made two new promotions at its Dubai office.

Phiroze Mogrelia has been promoted to Dubai head of commodities.

Before the promotion, Mogrelia held an account manager role in the agri-commodities team in Rotterdam since 2007.

He joined the bank in 2000, when he worked on the agri-commodities desk in Singapore.

He has also held positions at G. Premjee in Singapore and London and at Deutsche Bank in India.

The second promotion is Samir Kasmi, who has been appointed head of energy commodities in Dubai.

Kasmi joined the bank in 2007 to serve on the energy commodities desk in Amsterdam and has been working as a senior account manager of energy commodities in Fortis’s Dubai office since last year.

Before joining Fortis, Kasmi held positions at Société Générale and Citigroup in both Paris and Algiers.

“Fortis Bank Nederland is confident that with their strong background and experience in commodities, Phiroze and Samir will be able to further grow the commodities activities in the region. Strengthening of the team in Dubai is fully in line with the strategy of the energy, commodities and transportation division in the new combined bank,” Fortis notes in a statement.

The promotions are on the same date as Fortis Bank Nederland and ABN Amro are due to merge, as Fortis continues: “The new ABN Amro aims to rebuild the global network in specialised areas where we want to develop a strong leadership position in energy, commodities and transportation markets. The Dubai team is geographically focussed on Mena, East Africa and subcontinent regions.”
