Peruvian copper miner Southern Peru Copper Corp plans to form an alliance with mining marketplace B2Mining to optimise the procurement of spare parts from machinery suppliers.
The partnership will allow Southern Peru’s suppliers to start using the marketplace, which will make purchases and information exchange more efficient and speedier.
Southern Peru is Peru’s largest copper producer, and among the 10 largest producers worldwide. Its shareholders are Grupo M éxico (54.2%), Cerro Trading Company (14.2%), Phelps Dodge (14%) and others (17.6%). The company’s main suppliers include the local representative of heavy equipment maker Caterpillar.
IBM developed B2Mining as one of Latin America’s principal mining marketplaces.
