The African Development Bank (AfDB) has stated that the issue of transferring its headquarters out of its host country, Côte d’Ivoire, was never envisaged. The AfDB is a Pan-African development institution belonging to 53 African and 24 non-African member countries, which are represented on its board of directors by 18 executive directors, including a permanent representative for C í´te d’Ivoire on this board.

In view of the crisis prevailing in the country since September 19, 2002, member countries convened the Governors” Consultative Committee (GCC) of the bank ministers from the countries of origin of the 18 executive directors to evaluate the impact of the crisis on the operations of the institution, in a drive to safeguard its ability to discharge its duties to the African member countries.

This was held in Accra on December 16-17, 2002.
