FirstCity, the privately-owned insurance and reinsurance advisory firm with a specialisation in the financial services sector, has recruited two new members to its trade and political risk team in London.
Clare Colton has joined FirstCity as a partner after a career in political risk insurance that started in 1986 with BankAmerica Insurance Brokers who she had joined after four years training with HSBC.
Most recently, she was divisional director, political risk and trade credit, at United Insurance Brokers Ltd (UIB).
A fluent French speaker, Colton trades predominantly with a French client base and is used to to providing a comprehensive trade and political risk insurance service to a broad spectrum of industries. Her remit includes commodity trading, mining, biochemicals, engineering, construction and oil and gas.
Furthermore, Brendan Lawlor has joined FirstCity to manage and develop this unique facility and brings with him considerable experience of the development of imaginative programmes ranging from terrorism through to trade and political risk insurance for bank trade finance.
Lawlor’s career in insurance since 1984 has embraced aviation, reinsurance, property and most recently his initiatives to develop the terrorism facility for CPG and innovative insurance facilities for bank trade finance.
As a further initiative FirstCity has agreed a letter of understanding with CommonWealth Professional Group (CPG) of Reading, Pennsylvania for the joint development of CPG’s SecureOne Terrorism Insurance Scheme.
