Mariano Urquiola has been appointed head of global transaction banking (GTB) US at Santander.

He replaces Carlos Gutierrez Salan, who has taken on the position of global head of financial institutions within the GTB team in Madrid.

In his new role, which he started on July 1, Urquiola is in charge of trade and working capital solutions, export and agency finance and cash management. He remains based in New York and reports locally to Federico Papa, head of global corporate banking in the US, and globally to Jose Luis Calderon, global head of GTB.

Urquiola was previously head of sales, GTB. He joined the Santander GTB team in 2011 as executive director, responsible for the origination and structuring of transactions for commodity-related clients. He previously worked within SMBC’s structured trade and commodity finance department in the Americas, and at HSH Nordbank.
