President Omar Kabbaj has appointed Cheikh Ibrahima Fall to the post of secretary-general of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Fall did, from 1996 to 1999, occupy that position before moving on to become, after a successful interview, vice-president and secretary-general of the World Bank Group from 1999 to 2002.

Fall joined the bank in December 1986 as director of the office of the former president till 1991 when he was appointed country programme director, south region in January 1992. He was in October 1995 given the task of officer in charge of the bank’s reorganisation exercise.

Before joining the AfDB, Fall worked as director of operations at Banque Ouest Africaine de D éveloppement (BOAD).
