John Sprengelmeijer is the new head of ING’s Hong Kong office, replacing Dorothy Chan.

Sprengelmeijer will maintain his duties as head of trade and commodity finance, North Asia, while Chan is leaving the bank after 16 years to “pursue personal interests”.

He will report to Catherine Low, head of international trade and export finance, Asia and also to Aart Jan den Hartog, country manager, head of commercial banking for Greater China and Mongolia.

Sprengelmeijer’s role will be to assist with the growth of ING’s Greater China network, which includes offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei. He joined ING in 1994 and worked in various trade and commodity finance roles in the Netherlands in Switzerland. He moved to Hong Kong in 2013.

Den Hartog praises Sprengelmeijer’s experience and says he will be “a key manager of the Greater China management team”.

He also pays tribute to the outgoing Chan, saying: “We would also like to express our deep regard and appreciation to Dorothy for so ably steering our business operations in Hong Kong over the years and wish her the best in her new adventures.”
