Markel International has appointed Hazel Ward as a UK marine underwriter.

Ward, who joins from Travelers, where she was an underwriter for the insurer’s marine portfolio, will be responsible for all types of marine, non-cargo business, with a particular focus on ports and harbour authorities, ship repairers, charterer’s liability, and hull and machinery for brown water craft.

The appointment builds on recent hires to continue the development of the marine and energy business, as Markel is striving to boost its presence in ports and terminals, and marine trades business.

“Hazel’s got tremendous experience in UK marine and has an important role to play in growing our business in the market. Along with the appointments of Charlie Bragg, ports and terminals, and Steve Loader, marine trades, her appointment reflects Markel’s commitment to the broader marine market,” says Paul Jenks, managing director of marine and energy.
