Maarten Koning has been appointed global head of structured metals and energy finance (SMEF) at ING.

Koning has been with the bank for 16 years, most recently as deputy head of trade and commodity finance (TCF) in Geneva. Prior to that he was responsible for TCF activities in North Asia, based in Hong Kong and before that he worked for TCF in Singapore and Amsterdam. The new role will see him back in Amsterdam.

Commenting on the new role, Koning says: “In the past decade, the ING SMEF activity has developed from a leading Commonwealth of Independent States business to a truly global franchise. Despite the elevated political unrest and an unprecedented commodity down cycle in the past years, the business has proven resilient.”
