HSBC has expanded its Asia Pacific presence by hiring three staff to its resources and energy (REG) team.

Peter O’Malley joins the bank as a managing director, head of REG for Asia Pacific and is also leading the oil and gas coverage for REG in Asia.

A sector veteran, O’Malley has almost 20 years’ experience covering energy and has strong experience in Asia, having most recently worked at Deutsche Bank Hong Kong as head of the natural resources team.

Following O’Malley from Deutsche Bank HK is Eugene Tan, who joins HSBC as managing director, REG, Asia.

Tan has 15 years’ industry experience with clients across Asia including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.

Finally, Anne Kao joins HSBC as a managing director, head of power and utilities for China.

Kao brings 20 years of experience in the power sector to the role, having previously worked at Macquarie Capital Advisers Hong Kong.

Tan and Kao will both report to O’Malley, who in turn reports to Russell Julius, HSBC’s managing director, head of global banking, Asia Pacific.
