Deon Govender has joined Chadbourne & Parke as an international partner in the Johannesburg office. He had spent the last four and a half years as a senior banker and in-house counsel with the corporate and investment banking division of Absa Bank, the South African subsidiary of Barclays.

While at Absa, he led teams involved in the financings of thermal and renewable energy power plants and other infrastructure assets, including the 300MW Project Maamba coal-fired power plant in Zambia (a GTR Best Deal of 2015) and the 40MW Dorper wind farm in South Africa.

His experience also includes advising on financing independent power producer projects under the South African government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.

At Chadbourne, he focuses his practice on project development and corporate and project finance transactions across Africa, with particular emphasis on Southern Africa.
