Richard Yorke, deputy chief executive, China business, of HSBC has been appointed chief executive of the unit.
Yorke joined the bank’s China office last year from Hong Kong where he was head of trade services, Asia Pacific.
With its China head office based in Pudong, Shanghai, HSBC’s network in mainland China comprises 10 branches in Beijing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan and Xiamen, four sub-branches in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and two representative offices in Chongqing and Chengdu, both having obtained approval to upgrade into full branch status.
The bank plans to open the Chongqing and Chengdu branches in the second half of 2005.
