Bank of China has hired John Omoti in the newly-created position of head of supply chain finance (SCF) in its London office.

Omoti joins from MUFG Bank, where he was client implementation manager for trade finance and working capital solutions. He previously held trade finance positions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Guaranty Trust Bank – always in London.

Speaking to GTR, Omoti says that Bank of China is aiming to grow its SCF business in the UK market, and that he was employed to head the team.

“My role will involve supporting the relationship managers to originate new bilateral SCF opportunities; looking for strategic third-party platforms to partner with to fund their supply chain offerings; originating SCF business opportunities in the secondary market by partnering with other banks; and looking at the SCF product management within the bank,” he says.

He reports to Ping Xiao, head of the bank’s transaction banking department in London.
