AIG, formerly Chartis, has appointed Tony Smith, David Major and Steven Kent as underwriters in its trade credit team.

The trio will be based in London and will report to Will Clark, AIG’s trade credit manager for the UK.

The new appointments join AIG from Euler Hermes.

Earlier in his career, Smith held roles at Mitsui & Co and Charles Letts & Co, while Major and Kent have both previously worked for Coface and Atradius.

“Demand for trade credit insurance is increasing as companies continue to face the challenges of an uncertain economy coupled with a new set of exposures as they push into new export markets, searching for the growth opportunities that are proving so elusive at home,” Clark says.

Chartis will change its brand name to that of its US-based parent company AIG on Monday December 3.
