The trade and commodity finance team at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp (SMBC) in London has expanded with the arrival of Graham Murray from Banque Natexis Populaires. Murray is now assistant general manager under John Turnbull. Murray will be undertaking the same role as at Natexis – heading up the metals business for the EMEA region.

The bank has recently also looked to Asia to beef up the London commodity desk. Kanbayashi Masaki is joining in October from the bank’s Tokyo office to concentrate on trade and structured trade business. Kazau Yoshimura joined at the end of last year.

Turnbull comments: “We are trying to develop our structured trade business more. It is early days, but we”ve done eight or nine deals this year – in Russia, Iran and Angola, for instance.”
