At least U$300mn is needed for the rehabilitation of roads and bridges in

  • Angola, the public works minister, Higino Carneiro, has recently said. According to the minister, the Angolan government has to resort to external funding to attain the construction of fresh communication infrastructures and reconstruction of degraded ones.

    Under the programme set to start this year there are projects for which no funding has been put aside as the budget allotted to his ministry can only meet 50% of needs.

    He also states that the ministry of public works is seeking to obtain funding to secure the accomplishment of more than 50% of projects for 2003.

    Local and foreign companies will work together and on equal terms in the rehabilitation of infrastructure under the National Reconstruction Programme, minister Carneiro claims, adding however that national firms will be given priority.
