At EuroFinance Copenhagen, GTR caught up with Vanessa Manning, Europe product head at Standard Chartered, to discuss the most promising innovations in the trade finance space.

She mentioned cloud-based platforms as a significant development, since corporates are increasingly moving away from banks’ proprietary solutions and towards “bank-agnostic” platforms.

In terms of blockchain technology, Manning explained that current use cases are being tested in the document authentication arena, but that use cases in the payment space is widely possible in the future.

Finally, she sees the relationship between banks and fintechs evolve more and more towards collaboration, as fintechs allow banks to bring new solutions to market much more quickly than if they developed them in-house.
