The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has arranged a €15mn loan to Raiffeisen Leasing Romania, part of the Raiffeisen Leasing International. It will be used to support the expansion and further development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Romania.

Proceeds of the loan will be on-lent to local companies to help them acquire equipment for the expansion of their businesses, with typical investments including equipment, light commercial vehicles, trucks and trailers.

Since 1997 the Romanian leasing market has been growing steadily, and demand from local SMEs for longer tenor loans has risen significantly.

Raiffeisen Leasing has a 6.7% share of the Romanian leasing market, and has a network of 16 branches. SMEs account for 68% of the company’s total business portfolio.

This facility is the second leasing deal provided by the EBRD to Raiffeisen Leasing. In 2003, the borrower received its first €5mn loan from EBRD.
