Belarus is to build a port in the Russian Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad and will channel its freight flow to the Russian port. Such an agreement was met at a recent meeting between the two presidents, Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin.

According to Lukashenko, Belarus annually transports about 17mn tons of cargo through the ports of Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic States. Almost one third of the Lithuanian budget is formed from the transit of Belarussian freight.
