Alliant Insurance Services has announced the establishment of Alliant Emerging Markets. The group, based in Chicago and New York, will provide consultative brokerage services to energy, banking and corporate clients focusing on political risk and trade credit.

Alliant Emerging Markets specialises in helping clients capitalise on the growth of developing economies by identifying and mitigating political and cross border risks.

John Minor will serve as the group’s executive vice-president and managing director and Michel Leonard as the group’s senior vice-president and chief economist.

Minor, who ran the emerging markets group for JLT USA and before that for Aon Risk Services, is a leading expert in the field of political risk with more than 15 years of experience in risk management, quantitative risk assessment and customized risk transfer solutions.

Leonard, formerly with JLT USA, Aon and Medley Advisors, brings more than 10 years of experience in financial risk modelling and risk management aimed at increasing a firm’s ability to withstand regulatory, economic and political risk and reducing its cost of capital.

Minor will be based in Chicago and Leonard in New York.  Both joined Alliant following the firm’s acquisition of Jardine Lloyd Thompson’s US retail operations.

California-based Alliant Insurance Services, the second-largest privately-held insurance broker in the US with 1,000 employees, has been delivering specialised risk solutions to clients for more than 80 years.

Alliant is owned by its management and employees in partnership with the private equity firm Lindsay Goldberg & Bessemer.
