look good feel better

Etablished nearly 30 years ago, Look Good Feel Better is a national cancer support charity providing services in the heart of local communities for people undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. Their confidence boosting face to face workshops in hospitals and cancer care centres are designed to help people better cope with the physical and emotional side-effects of their cancer treatment. The workshops are run by trained Volunteers, equipped to address and provide advice on appearance related side-effects as well enable an opportunity for people to regain some control and normality, when cancer and their treatment programme has taken over their lives. The workshops also provide an opportunity for people to meet others in a similar situation and in doing so, feelings of isolation, loneliness and diminished self-confidence are reduced. Look Good Feel Better also offer virtual workshops, online video tutorials and further support information and advice on their website giving access to their services to as many people as possible. With estimates that by 2030 four million people in the UK will be living with cancer, the charity has embarked on a new three year strategy that will enable their services to treble, providing support to more than 30,000 people per annum by 2025.

Mary’s Meals

On 6 February, two earthquakes – registering 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude – hit Syria and Turkey in the space of just 12 hours, killing many thousands of people and causing widespread devastation. Mary’s Meals immediately launched an emergency appeal to support children and families as they fight for survival. Through a local partner, Dorcas, Mary’s Meals are working around the clock to feed people in the city and surrounding areas of Aleppo. But there’s so much more we can do to help communities affected by these terrible earthquakes. Watch the ‘Syria Earthquake Appeal: An Interview with a Volunteer’ video for more details.
