Standard Chartered has appointed Peter Burnett as its regional head of corporate finance for Northeast Asia (NEA).

Starting in the newly-created position on April 8, 2013, Burnett will be responsible for project and export finance, mergers and acquisitions advisory, structured trade finance, financing solutions and equity capital markets for the bank’s NEA corporate finance segment.

Based in Hong Kong, he will report to Mark Dowie, group head of corporate finance, and work closely with Gene Kim, regional head, global markets, NEA, to ensure geographic and regulatory alignment.

Burnett joins Standard Chartered from UBS, where he was chairman of global capital markets for Asia. He was at UBS for 24 years, holding various senior positions including head of equity capital markets for Asia and CEO of the bank’s Middle East investment banking business. Burnett and Dowie already worked together as co-heads of UBS’s investment banking business in Asia between 2000 and 2004.

Commenting on the appointment, Dowie says: “I’m very excited to be working with Peter again. His extensive business experience with longstanding, deep client relationships, especially in Asia and the Middle East synergises very well with our business philosophy and focus. I have no doubt that he will be a huge asset to our clients and provide us with a greater focus on business delivery and strategy.”
