Export Development Canada (EDC) has appointed Terry Makhubele as senior regional manager, Africa, in Johannesburg.

Makhubele joins the Canadian export credit agency (ECA) from Nedbank, where he had been principal, export credit finance since 2015.

At EDC he reports to Jean-Bernard Ruggieri, who in August was promoted from his previous position of African team leader of global business development to chief representative and head of Middle East and Africa, global business development. With his promotion came a move from Johannesburg to Dubai.

EDC opened its first African representative office in Johannesburg, with Ruggieri at the helm, at the end of 2015.

Ruggieri told GTR at the time that South Africa presented itself as a “good hub” and as such the prime location for the ECA’s first permanent office on the continent.

“Even though Africa may not be the first office Canadian exporters think about, more and more customers are talking about opportunities on the continent,” he said.
