ING has named Gerrit Stoelinga regional head of wholesale banking for Asia, starting September 1.

Stoelinga was previously global head of international trade and commodity finance and co-head of structured finance at the bank.

Based in Singapore, his role will include responsibility for trade and commodity finance, utilities and infrastructure, real estate, transportation and financial institutions.

He succeeds Mark Newman in the position. Newman will continue to manage ING ‘s Asian retail business, excluding Australia. This includes the maintenance of relationships with three local banks: Bank of China, Kotak Mahindra Bank in India and TMB in Thailand.

Stoelinga has been with ING since 1999, working across lending services and structured finance. In 2010, he was made global head of structured acquisition finance, a role he held until January 2015.

Bill Connelly of the management board for wholesale banking says: “I would like to thank Mark for his dedication and contribution made in the various roles he fulfilled in our wholesale bank. Our Asian franchise has developed into a major contributor to wholesale banking under his leadership.”
