Export Development Canada (EDC) has appointed Rafael Castillo as its new representative in Peru.

He will be working to develop opportunities for Canadian firms selling into or operating in the country, particularly in infrastructure, power, mining and oil and gas.

Before joining EDC, Castillo worked in the Swiss financial sector for six years. He was also an advisor for the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) between 2011 and 2014.

“Peru is a country on the rise with signs of growth appearing everywhere, from mega infrastructure projects to expansive initiatives in the mining and agriculture sectors. We think that Canadian capabilities match up very well with Peru’s development needs, so an important part of my job will be to connect Canadian suppliers with those opportunities,” he says.

Castillo will be based in Lima and work alongside Lorena Fuentes, regional co-ordinator. He replaces Stephen Benoit, who moved to Colombia last year to set up the EDC office there.
