Canopius has appointed Jamie Jeffers as an underwriter of credit and political risk in its Asia Pacific division, as it continues its expansion in the region.

Jeffers will take up his new role on September 9, and will be based out of the firm’s Singapore office, where he will report to Yann Marmonier, head of insurance, Asia Pacific and Mena, and Bernie de Haldevang, head of specialty in London.

Jeffers is joining from Willis Towers Watson, where he has served since February 2018 as executive director, financial solutions, credit and political risk. Previously he was head of insurance, financial institutions for Westpac in Sydney, and before that he was a financial credit analysist for AIB in Dublin.

Speaking about Jeffers’ appointment, Marmonier says: “Jamie brings the balance of skills essential for Canopius to capitalise on the significant credit and political risks opportunities emanating from the region. His appointment signifies the importance of credit and political risk insurance to Canopius in its continuing expansion across the Asia Pacific and it gives me great pleasure to welcome Jamie to the team.”

This appointment comes on the heels of the firm’s opening of a new office in Sydney, which it has hired former Tokio Marine exec Claudio Saita to lead. The firm is now focusing on expanding across the Asia Pacific region by targeting bank and corporate business, as well as engaging with existing and new partners.
