BPL Global has hired Cindy Gunawan as a broker in its Singapore office.

She joins the insurance broker from Standard Chartered, where she was a senior associate specialising in trade finance distribution. She reports to Peter Gilbert, chief executive of BPL’s Singapore subsidiary.

Gilbert says: “In Singapore, we have already this year witnessed increased demand for insurance from clients engaged in international trade, investment and lending – and are scaling up to cope with this.”

The new hire is part of BPL’s ongoing expansion, as the insurer has grown its headcount by 10% over the past year across its Singapore, Hong Kong and London offices, reaching over 80 staff members.

Recent appointments have included James Reynolds and Jonny Carruthers as assistant directors at the London headquarters, as well as trainee brokers and IT/business analysts in London, Singapore and Hong Kong.

BPL Global’s partner broker in the US, EIA Global, also recently announced the hiring of John Lavelle as senior managing director for trade credit, structured trade and political risk insurance.
