Banif – Banco Internacional do Funchal – has appointed Martin Ashurst as senior trader in the trade finance team in London. He will join Teresa Casal, head of trade finance and Josephine Grima, head of operations.

Ashurst joins from Hungarian International Finance where he spent the last 10 years and his responsibilities will include primary and secondary origination and distribution of transactions primarily relating to Europe, Middle East and Africa but also South America where Banif has a strong presence and Asia. He held similar positions at SEB and Standard Chartered.

Ashurst, who is based in London, “brings over 25 years experience in the trade finance and bonds market. The combination of a successful track record in structuring and syndicating transactions in emerging markets globally, together with his senior level contacts in the industry further strengthens Banif’s ability to serve its customers,” says Casal.
