Law firm Akin Gump has appointed John Marciano as a project finance lawyer in its tax practice in Washington DC.

He joins the US firm from Chadbourne & Parke and specialises in the tax and financing aspects of solar, wind, geothermal and biomass power generation facilities. He has regularly advised businesses on raising finance for such assets.

Marciano has written extensively on the structuring issues relating to asset financing in the renewable infrastructure space and will be responsible for innovating Akin Gump’s existing practice.

The firm’s global project finance head, Edward Zaelke, says: “Particularly with Congress’ passage of the extension of the tax credits for wind, solar and other renewables and the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan, the renewable power sector is poised to remain a major driver of our economy for several years to come.

“John is a tremendous addition to our expanding team and will be a great asset to our clients as they seek perspective to capitalise on opportunities and develop projects in the wind, solar, geothermal and biomass space.”
