ABN Amro has expanded its Asia commodities metals team by hiring Ben Cheung as an executive director.

Cheung will head up the commodities metals team in Hong Kong and is tasked with rebuilding the bank’s ferrous and non-ferrous franchise with a focus on Hong Kong and China.

He will be reporting to Maaike Steineback, ABN Amro’s managing director, energy, commodities and transportation, Asia.

Cheung has a wealth of experience in the metals sector in Asia after having joined the metals business at Fortis in 2002.

“Ben was instrumental in the development of the Chinese metals and steel portfolio at Fortis,” says ABN Amro in a statement.

He will be supported by Gary Ho, who joins ABN Amro from Standard Chartered.
