The United Bank of Kuwait (UBK) has changed its name to Ahli United Bank. The London branch is now known as Ahli United Bank (UK) plc. In 2000 UBK bought Ahli Commercial Bank headquartered in Bahrain and instigated a share swap. The Kuwaiti and Bahraini governments own sizeable stakes in the bank. Other shareholders include a couple of Kuwaiti commercial banks, companies and private individuals. The bank is quoted on the Bahrain Stock Exchange.
