SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a C$750mn fixed price contract by the Algerian Agence Nationale des Barrages to design and build a 600,000 m3/day water treatment plant and pumping station at Taksebt, about 100km east of Algiers.

The contract also includes the operation and maintenance of the facilities for a five-year period once construction is completed.
SNC-Lavalin will design several water treatment plants, supply and install 90km of ductile iron pipes, and construct four tunnels, each 2.5m in diameter, over an area of 11.7km.

The pipe and tunnel systems from the water treatment plant will supply water to the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Dra Ben-Khedda and Boudouaou, as well as to the capital, Algiers.
The design and construction work on the plant and pumping station will be completed in different stages, with full completion in autumn 2007. Financial advisory services for the project are being provided by SNC-Lavalin Capital Inc.
