Insurance broker Arthur J Gallagher (AJG) has acquired an 85% majority stake in Swedish specialist insurance broker Brim as it continues to focus on expansion in Scandinavia.

AJG declined to disclose a purchase value for the deal but said Brim would continue under the leadership of CEO Rikard Oijermark and partner Fredrik Enderlein.

“We have a clear strategy to bring together leading speciality brokers and expertise within each class and territory of business around the world,” says CEO of Gallagher International Grahame Chilton.

In December 2013, AJG successfully purchased Norwegian marine, energy and speciality insurance broker Bergvall Marine.

Brim, with a staff of 29, has two core practices within infrastructure projects. The company’s credit and political risk practice provides financing support for major infrastructure projects around the world while its construction practice supports infrastructure and civil engineering projects across Sweden, Finland and Norway.

As an AJG global alliance partner the two companies have been working together over the years with Gallagher’s London office assisting Brim on its projects with Lloyd’s of London.

“We have enjoyed great success working with Gallagher’s London speciality, international and reinsurance teams and built a strong rapport with the organisation and its leadership,” says Oijermark.

“Being part of the Gallagher group will open up new avenues of growth for us globally, along with access to a whole new range of products, services and capabilities to offer our clients.”
