The Export-Import Bank of the United States (US Exim) has issued a US$9mn direct loan to a solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Rajasthan, India.

The loan will be used to purchase thin-film solar panels from Miasolé, a Californian solar-energy company. The borrower is Sai Maithili Power Company and the panels will be used in the construction of an 11.6MW solar PV in Rajasthan.

It is the second time US Exim has funded Miasolé’s exports to India. In 2010, it provided a US$3.7mn loan to export solar PV panels to a solar project in the country’s Gujarat region.

The move comes in the same week that US Exim authorised a US$190mn loan to El Al Israel Airlines for the purchase of a fleet of Boeings. However, further details on this transaction have not been disclosed.
