IFC has promoted Antonio Alves to principal of its short-term finance department and regional head of the Latin America and Caribbean regions.

Based in Washington, Alves will be responsible for originating, developing and delivering all short-term financing in the region, while managing a team in three countries. He will report to German Vegarra, IFC’s global head of short-term finance.

Alves was previously IFC’s senior regional head of short-term finance for the Latin America and Caribbean regions. Before joining IFC, he was senior manager of international business and trade finance at Banco Itaú.

Commenting on his new role, Alves tells GTR: “After the tremendous success of the (IFC’s) global trade finance programme, I am very excited with this new challenge of expanding IFC’s footprint in the region through our new short-term finance products.”
