ABB, a power and automation technology group has won a US$33mn contract to provide equipment and services for a pulp mill under construction in Brazil.

It will be built in the eastern city of Tres Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul and will have the ability to produce 1.3mn tons per year of bleached eucalyptus pulp.

Having won the contract, ABB will now be supplying automation and electrification systems for the new mill, as well as a 138-KV substation.

Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s process automation, remarks: “This project reinforces our position as a key supplier of solutions for the pulp and paper market in Brazil. By integrating electrical and automation systems on a single platform, we help to ensure quality, productivity and energy efficiency.”

The project is known as Projeto Horizonte, and a company known as Poyry Empreendimentos Industriais, has been hired to carry out the construction of the project. Once the mill starts production, it will be transferred to Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP), part of the Votorantim Group and one of the largest companies in Latin America’s pulp and paper sector.
