US Exim has extended a US$130mn loan to Ethiopian Airlines for the purchase of Boeing aircraft.

It’s the latest in a long line of transactions the ECA has done with Ethiopian and Boeing. In May 2010, US Exim gave the carrier a loan of US1.6bn to buy 15 Boeing aircraft. In May 2012, it supported the purchase of 10 Boeing Dreamliners through a capital market bond issuance. Since 2003, it has loaned the company US$2.2bn.

Fred Hochberg, US Exim chairman, says: ““US Exim is pleased to add another transaction in our successful partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, which is supporting hundreds of jobs in the US aerospace industry. This transaction also demonstrates the tremendous potential of Africa for US exporters.”
