Russia and CIS Trade & Export Finance Conference 2016
Hotel Baltschug Kempinski , Moscow
April, 14, 2016
High-profile corporate and financial sector decision makers from Russia and its key trade partners gathered in Moscow, on April 14, to attend GTR’s Russia and CIS Trade & Export Finance Conference 2016. As the only event of its kind, delegates had the opportunity to address concerns raised over the region’s trading ability with the rest of the world.
With international sanctions at the forefront of challenges being faced by businesses operating out of Russia, attendees received a corporate outlook on issues such as facilitating trade deals, corporate financiers and their concern over FX volatility, whether the lifting of sanctions holds the key to restoring corporate trade and investment, as well as the emerging opportunities in Asia and its long term viability as a strategic market.
Welcoming support from the likes of VTB, HSBC, Sberbank, UniCredit, Bank ABC and more from the financial sector, and a host of companies and organisations such as Exiar, Mechel, Zarubezhneft, Nordgold and Deloports, the gathering provided an excellent forum for crucial discussions and well-rounded insight on the current state of Russia’s trade finance market.
“We’re seeing a distinct difference in the Russian market this year compared to 2015” said George Mitchell, Senior Conference Producer at GTR. “Companies and both domestic and international lenders have collaborated and innovated effectively to overcome financing challenges in the current sanctions environment. Conditions are still tough but structured trade finance deals are being pushed through. We’ve showcased some of the successful deal structures at this year’s event, and are looking forward to seeing continuing development in the coming year. There’s still a long way to go until the huge potential volume of trade financing held in this region will be fully realised. Those who keep in touch with the market in the meantime will have the opportunity to reap the benefits.”
Networking formed an integral part of the event with numerous breaks scheduled throughout the day, meaning delegates could carry on discussions and build new relationships in a more informal setting. With an evening drinks reception after the conference, attendees were able to create new business opportunities as well as catch up with old contacts.
