Global Trade Review (GTR) is delighted to announce the latest instalment in its ‘Future-Proofing Trade Finance’ series, taking place ahead of the annual GTR UK trade and export finance conference.

Hosted by our friends at A&O Shearman, join us for the next instalment of GTR Future-Proofing Trade Finance on June 19, and engage in crucial dialogue and in-depth analysis on how the industry can adapt and thrive in the face of internal and external structural changes. A key forum for open discussion and collaboration, this event provides an invaluable opportunity to network and connect with all corners of the market. This year’s guest speaker will be Cath Baxter, one of the UK’s leading voice coaches and a public speaking expert, who works with a wide range of business clients and companies, helping them to add greater impact to their communications; whilst the event will also focus on practical ‘lessons learned’ and provide a summary of the various exciting initiatives taking place to promote diversity and inclusion across the sector.

Open to all and free to attend, we look forward to welcoming you to what is set to be an insightful and thought-provoking event.

13.00-13.45 Registration and networking

13.45-13.50 Welcome remarks

13.50-14.30 Personal experiences and lessons learned from leaders

Despite the best efforts of various stakeholders and growing profile as an industry issue, the barriers preventing women from fully participating and advancing across the world of trade continue to pose stubborn resistance. This conversation will address the following talking points:

  • Advancing up the ladder: How can you improve the pipeline so more of those in entry-level roles make it through to leadership positions? Do more uncomfortable conversations need to be held with senior management across the industry?
  • Mentorship, sponsorship and finding role models: How positive influences can prove ‘game-changing’ in learning from experiences and developing strategies for career advancement
  • Not just a women issue: The important role of male colleagues as advocates for gender equality and in developing a positive company culture
  • Levelling the playing field: Recognising the importance of equity and building an equitable platform for diversity and inclusion to flourish

Natasha Condon, Global Head of Trade Sales, EMEA Trade Head, J.P. Morgan & Catherine Lang-Anderson, Partner, A&O Shearman in conversation with Shannon Manders, Editorial Director, Global Trade Review (GTR)

14.30-15.00 Networking break

16.00-16.45 Aspiration and representation: Where does the market need to get to?

Since launching this event (initially as GTR Women in Trade Finance) in 2015, the global trade finance industry has seen a plethora of initiatives and networks launched, all with the purpose of creating cross-institutional diversity, from attracting young professionals to raising the aspirations and supporting the progression of underrepresented groups, to increasing the visibility of diverse talent pools. This closing session will assess the current status of this conversation, providing an update on various activities before considering, nearly a decade in, what the direction of travel is.

Moderator: Chris Hall, Executive Director, Financial Solutions, WTW; Head of Regions, ITFA
