1 Day Event

GTR hosted the annual GTR Europe Trade & Export Finance Conference 2016 on May 12 in Hamburg. The event welcomed over 100 key delegates, representing over 70 different companies, from 12 countries.

This year’s conference was supported by some of the leading European and global financial institutions including HSH Nordbank, AIG, BPL Global, BBVA, Bank ABC and many more, as well as benefitting from official partnership from the likes of ICC Germany, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and ICISA. Now one of the key gatherings for trade and export officials in the region, attendees came together to discuss key concerns amongst traders and exporters when doing business in Europe and how this translates to banks and financial institutions.

Discussions were led on stage by representatives from C&F Steel International, German-Iranian Chamber of Commerce, CCCMachinery, Jebsen & Jessen and more, which provided a detailed look at corporate treasury, strengthening business links with Iran and whether or not the banking sector can still support global trade. With different sessions and streams incorporated throughout the one day event, a wealth of information was available to delegates to help manage financial expectations and find alternative solutions to financing trade and export needs in the current economic climate.

“The European banking sector is facing strong headwinds, with global economic and financial market volatility making for a torrid start to 2016” said George Mitchell, Senior Conference Producer at GTR, “The capability of the European trade finance sector to continue providing financial support in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Asia, and the alternative financing options available, was a key focus at this year’s GTR Europe Trade & Export Finance Conference. Trade and export financing remains crucial for European companies, with significant opportunities emerging in challenging locations such as Iran and along China’s One Belt One Road initiative. Cross-sector collaboration between financiers, ECAs and private insurers will be key to maintaining provision. The conference provided a unique opportunity to discuss current trade financing requirements, and the strategies that can be employed to support trade and private sector growth across the region.”

With so many high-level figures in attendance, networking was a key element of the programme, providing the opportunity for delegates to build new relationships and catch up with peers.
