International Trade & Commodity Finance Masterclass
A practical analysis of the key issues, risks and challenges

 

This GTR Training will take place on September 6-7, during GTR Asia Trade & Treasury Week 2018.

This concentrated course will provide an intensive and highly interactive analysis of the practical, operational and regulatory risks in international trade, documentary credits and commodities. It will explain how international trade is financed and consider the key principles that need to be adhered to and understood. It will also provide an analysis, of the main trade products and assess when and where they are appropriate to use.

 


What to expect:

  • In-depth practical training exercises
  • Bespoke practical case studies together with a consideration of over 30 trade finance court cases
  • Analyse the use of payment LOIs in oil trading
  • Consider the wide spectrum of risks; regulatory, operational, and credit that must be considered
  • An analysis of fraud in international trade
  • An assessment of specialised credits: Red and green clause credits, transferable credits, back-to-back credits
  • Financial crime, KYC and AML – key issues for Trade Finance

Meet your trainer:

John Turnbull, CEO of Certis International is a senior banker and trade finance specialist with 35 years experience of origination, negotiation, structuring, risk management and regulation of the full range of international trade transactions. Formerly joint general manager and global head of structured trade and commodity finance at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, John has acted as expert witness in a number of high-profile trade finance legal cases. He was co-Chair of the ICC Banking Commission Consulting Group on the most recent revision of the UCP/ISBP, former chair of the Association of Foreign Banks Trade Finance Committee, Chairman of the ICC UK Banking Committee and member of the ICC Banking Commission Global Financial Crime Committee and of the joint ICC/Wolfsberg Committee. Representative on many national and international trade committees and boards including the US division of the International Energy Credit Association, the IECA Europe Committee and the editorial board of GTR magazine.
