Asia’s trade finance community gather in Hong Kong for major finance conference
Global Trade Review (GTR), the leading publication for the trade, commodity and export finance community returned to Hong Kong to host the GTR Asia Trade & Supply Chain Finance Conference 2016, which takes place at JW Marriott on June 6.
Building on the success of 2015’s inaugural event, 2016’s conference delivered a timely agenda to business leaders and provided unrivalled networking opportunities for domestic, regional and international financial institutions, global corporate and SMEs, policy makers and specialist trade finance and supply chain experts.
The event welcomed Raymond Yip, Deputy Executive Director, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to deliver the keynote address focusing on the challenges that the Asian market is currently facing such as declining commodity prices and the effects of the Chinese slowdown. Additional speakers also took to the stage, representing the likes of China telecom, Microsoft, GE Capital, Hyva, Firestone Diamond and more.
“This year’s event introduced new topics focusing on the treasury and fintech sectors, placing greater importance on what it takes to establish a treasury centre, as well as highlighting exciting new developments such as blockchain and what it really means for trade” said Rosie Madderson, producer of the conference. “The event was also well timed to discuss the opportunities that The Belt and Road initiative has to offer in the region – we were pleased to facilitate numerous interesting discussions throughout the day!”
Topics for discussion included Hong Kong’s role in the One Belt, One Road initiative, the impact of regulatory measures and budget proposals and the options available for the progressive private insurance market.
With so many high-level delegates in attendance, networking formed a key feature throughout the day. A networking lunch, evening drinks reception and specific networking platforms provided ample opportunity for anyone serious about doing business in the region to create new business contacts and build relationships with the market’s main players.
